STARS -  Chapters in Singapore, Australia and Hong Kong. The STARS are going global!

STARSTRILOGO.jpg

Welcome to the STARS website. We are committed to actively promoting triathlon as a sport and a way of life. The STARS were founded in Singapore and we have chapters in Hong Kong and Australia. Our members are all 'regular' people who have a need to balance the things they love with the things they must do...this is called 'lifestyle'. However, there is a strong passion for performance as well within our club and the accumulation of good results reflects this.

We also have the YoungSTARS section for the athletes of tomorrow. In ideal climates such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Australia all things grow and that includes the Juniors section of our club.

We look forward to seeing you at a members night soon. Please contact us at chris@starstri.com for further information.

HEADLINES

The STARS ride for JDRF from Melbourne to Adelaide took place in December 2009. 956klm in 4 days, over $8,000 raised to help find a cure for Type 1 diabetes.  Thanks to all our supporters and riders. Keep up with Team Type 1 and their 2010 season, follow the link form our links page.

We have been remiss in our updates, time to change that. Here is a smattering of what we have been up to, and that doesn't include the details of the sub-10 hour finishers at Ironman WA last year or the very fast Phuket results:

Ian Tate has become KONA STAR as he's qualified for Kona at Ironman China on March 14th by coming 2nd in the 55-59 men. THE performance of the year, given Ian also had some GI issues on the bike. Ian was 3rd coming into the run leg, having swum and biked both steady and strong (in spite of his nutrition not agreeing with him) , and kept his steely eyes on the prize in front of him to overtake and claim 2nd. Mahalo Ian!!

Ned Phillips has been racing barefoot in the recent TriBob duathlon in Singapore on March 14th, finishing 5th individual. His soles fell off, so we hope that when he buys himself new shoes he'll finish on the podium!

Jack Grant has been laying it down for the YoungSTARS by finishing 2nd in the 8-9yrs duathlon, challenging Ned we hear... He was 4th overall in the youngsters race. Superb!!!

Chris Day raced the world renowned Murray Man, on the Murray River in South Australia, on the 14th as well. Distances were 2/60/15. He was 1st out of the water in the 40-44's, 5th swimmer overall, and finished 4th in the 40-44's. He then drove the 90klm home and swore he was going to take a few days off having completed Ironman NZ the weekend before!

Tim Wilkins has been giving the STARS lessons in bike handling skills as well, setting new records around the LCK loop in Singapore as well as stirring up the field in the recent OCBC 50klm bike race in Singapore, only dropping out of a place contention on the last lap with a flat tire.  He changed wheels and still finished well.

Adam Graham finished the same race and came in 21st, rumored to have not even built up a sweat! We're starting to get worried about just how fast Adam will go in his next Ironman..

Thomas Phillips "podiumed" (sic) as 3rd place in the OCBC 6-7yr old 5k ride. Aside from that coup de maitre , Tom has been generously giving his time to the media as well... http://www.pro-lite.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=197&Itemid=48

Adam Horler has been given a slot to Ride the Rockies in June... 851klm in 7 days with 8,173m of climbing! That, plus the Tour of Friendship and some time around the Tour de France should see Big Adam return as Very Fast Adam (he'll have to fight for that one with Little Adam G!)...

Ironman New Zealand saw a big STARS turnout on March 6th:

Richard Hall , from the Hong Kong STARS, qualified for Kona in the men's 35-39 age group in a blistering 9:42, 9th in the age group and 50th overall. 54 minute swim, 5:10 bike and a 3:31 run.... He didn't notice Chris Day waving (luckily!) as Chris overtook him in the swim!!! A stunning performance from a dedicated triathlete. Congratulations on another Kona slot to Hong Kong Kona Star

Richard Parkinson smoked the course in Taupo to record a 10:14. He swam just under an hour, showing he is developing fins, and put in a very solid run to come home strongly. Top STAR had a brilliant day.

Ed Blair finished another Ironman and finished Taupo in 10:22. Ed swam 58 minutes (Ed is growing gills), kept the bike steady at 5:30 then ran a strong 3:43, in spite of feeling the effects of GI issues on the run that he could have done without. Chapeau Ed..

Kelly Ingham went to battle in Taupo and emerged a winner with a finish of 11:50. She recorded her best swim and absolutely nailed the run after a bike leg that had a few issues, and aerobar problems in an Ironman make it a very tough day. Very impressive and an immensely positive day which bodes well for her next race.

Chris 'Mako' Day banished the DNF from IM NZ in 2009 (which was where he had to pull out of the race in the swim leg) to start the day with a 53:53 minute swim, 54th out of the water (he was not happy about this, wanted to be top 50!!) and 4th in the age group, biked a 5:32 that had a few issues (nutrition seemed to be the theme of the day!), but held it together to run a steady 4:13 to finish in 10:54. No more bad memories of Taupo and the ghost from the past seems to have been finally exorcised... Chris has been talking about his inner chimp, which has hopefully been left at the bottom of Lake Taupo, and that he's probably now found his inner shark!

Au revoir for now.... CC
